Top 10 Most Haunted Places in Britain

Welcome to the first half of my personally selected Top 10 Most Haunted Places in Britain. Where does one begin? What criteria does one use to select just ten from the literally thousands of spectres, phantoms and ghosts that haunt this 'Spectred Isle'.
Well, here is my choice, in no special order. All of these locations have a haunting that makes them 'stand out from the crowd' and all of them can be found within these pages.

Britain's Most Haunted House
I said that these locations would be in no special order. However, a list such as this has to start with the house that, even after 70 years, Borley Rectory is still know by the title of the book written about it, the 'Most Haunted House in England'.

Most Popular Ghost
A theatre where the appearance of the ghost during rehearsals for a theatrical production invariably means that the play will be a huge box office success. It is the Theatre Royal with it's Man in Grey.

Britain's Only Officially Recognised Haunting
As far as I am aware, there is only on British haunting that has actually been investigated by a Royal Commission. The conclusion of the investigation, which are held at the British Library, was that the Battle of Edgehill haunting was genuine.

Strangest British Haunting
There are many peculiar hauntings in Britain. But I personally think that the strangest spectre is probably the ghost that resulted from what must be one of the first experiments to try and preserve food by freezing, at least in this country. The Highgate Pond's Chicken Ghost.

Britain's Most Ancient Ghosts
The majority of ghosts 'fade' over time. They seem to have a 'limited life'. However, here you can find some ghosts that appear to be not only very old but also to appear exactly as they did when alive. They are the 1,600 years old York's Roman soldiers.
